History of
ESTATE AGENTS
ASSOCIATION
The Estate Agents Association was founded
in the year 1990 and registered on the 14th November of the same
year under the name of Islandwide Federal Estate Agents Association with
the following founder members :- Mr Joosub of Victoria Estate Agency, Mr
Fawzi Rajully of Camel Estate Agency, Mr Nazir Juhoor of Concorda Estate
Agency, Mr S. Tataya of Soges Estate Agency, Mr Bab Moonien of Durban
Estate Agency, Mr Laval Savreemootoo of Busy World Real Estate Agency
and Mr Katen Chetty of Real Estate Investment. The architect who laid
the foundation, is Mr Sivapragasen Papaya Naidoo. With the experience
acquired in various fields and also as a trade union leader, he guided
the new born association by organising its various activities; among
which, worth mentioning, are a few seminars held at Gold Crest in 1994
and Gymkana during the same year whereat Mr P.Balmano, Attorney, spoke
on the obligations and privileges of Estate Agents as provided under the
laws of Mauritius. Mr Roland Constantin, Public Notary, spoke on “the
role and functions of Public Notary in Mauritius”, and Mr Rashid
Nahaboo spoke on the “Prospects on Land Surveying in Mauritius”.
There has been various brain-storming sessions concerning the
preparation of an Estate Agent Acts.
Now the Association has outlived 10 years of its
history amid success and perils. Many founder members have left and the
remaining ones who continue to be the torchbearers are Mr Laval
Savreemootoo, Mr Katen Chetty and Mr Mahomed Joosub. Coprim Ltee joined
the Association in 1994, and Mr Denis Maujean, and Mr Gerard Maujean
strengthen the muscles of the organization, hence improving its image on
a national level. Mr Michel Ramiah of Gexim Land Consultant who is the
Vice Chairman, also is a potential member and with his experience and
motivation, many projects that the Association has in heart will surely
be fulfilled.
The name of the Association was changed from the
former one to “Estate Agents Association” on the 3rd of August 1994.
Now the Association is fully recognized on the National Level. The Express newspaper, our sole marketing tool displayed the advert under a special heading “Estate Agents Association”. The Association has its website. The future seems very bright because many other Estate Agents are joining the Association, and some of them are namely Profoncier Ltee and Beaubourg Ltee.
